Opportunities to Support MCHFH as a Volunteer

Midland County Habitat for Humanity welcomes volunteers of all ages, races, nationalities, religious affiliations and economic levels. Although liability concerns prevent us from allowing minors under the age of 14 on building sites during construction, they are welcome to help with non-construction related activities. Some tasks require licensed contractors or skilled volunteers. Other tasks can be learned on the job. The following list includes a small sampling of the types of volunteer opportunities available.

  • Construction Tasks:

    • Site preparation.
    • Foundation or crawl-space work.
    • Rough framing, roofing, siding.
    • Installing doors, windows, cabinets or flooring.
    • Plumbing, heating, electrical.
    • Drywall – hanging/finishing.
    • Painting.
    • Finish carpentry work.
    • Landscaping.

  • Non-Construction Tasks:

    • Construction support:

      • Site clean up.
      • First aid/safety.
      • Pickup and delivery.

    • Committee work:

      • Church relations.
      • Publicity/newsletters/website.
      • Volunteer scheduling.
      • Fundraising.
      • Family advocate.
      • Family selection.
      • Site selection (land).
